Manchester United star Rooney sat out the session due to a “minor issue” and is a doubt to face Julen Lopetegui’s side
Wayne Rooney missed England training this morning – and is a fitness worry for Wembley tomorrow night.
England captain Rooney sat out training this morning along with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand who is also a doubt for tomorrow’s friendly with Spain at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate said: “Both are being assessed. They had minor issues this morning. They weren’t ready to train.”
The Three Lions boss only had 19 outfield players left – having already sent home Harry Kane over the weekend – and so England drafted in Tottenham teenager Dylan Duncan.
England are training at Tottenham’s Enfield HQ and needed an extra body to make up the numbers for the training drills so 17-year-old midfielder Duncan got his chance.
Southgate has already admitted he will make changes for the Spain game with Jamie Vardy among the possible call-ups to the starting line-up.

“And yet when we play in the Europa League and the team win two penalties he gives the ball to Paul (Pogba) and Anthony (Martial) because they need the confidence. That
“You see it in the dressing room all the time, too. If he is not playing he’s still there talking about how to improve, how we’re playing, what we can do to win.
“He has never disconnected. When I retire from football one of the things that will stay with me is Wayne’s class.”
